Charlie & CeCe
- Cured of biting and now listens
The summer of 2004 brought joy and
tears. We adopted Charlie and CeCe from
Rescue a Golden Arizona. Charlie had several behavior problems, he was
biting and would not listen. Needless to say Sam and Terri stuck by his and
our side by guiding us to success. We have to admit it was 90% their job
showing us what to do, following up and giving us the tools but then it was
our job to implement and follow through with their teaching.
|
|
They both continued to check and see how we are even today. We admire
the two women and can't wait to have them come teach us more on how to include
the kids (Charlie and CeCe) when we extend our family with a baby.
Thank you Sam and Terri you've truly given us tools to make all of us
happier!

Kindest Regards,

Christopher, Nadine, Charlie and CeCe

Maggie
- Was cured from running into streets

My sister in MN and I were talking today about dog training (my other sister
's dog ran into the street and was hit by a car - thankfully the little pup
is still alive and recovering. However, he really needs some training.)

That scary experience made me realize how grateful and appreciative I am
for the training you helped us with for Maggie - I remember when she used to
run full blast towards the busy street - what a horrible feeling that was!!!

|
Maggie has grown into SUCH a wonderful dog - so loving, loyal and fun (she
still has her crazy JRT moments from time to time) however, overall she is
just too sweet for words.

You played an important role in that and I wanted to sincerely thank you for
that.

I always felt as though you truly cared for Maggie - even though she was the
"class clown" - it seemed she held a soft spot in you heart.

She is such an important part of my life - you truly make a huge difference
in the lives of dogs and their owners.

Thank you for teaching such a helpful class and the one-on-one training.
Maggie is definitely a better dog because of it. I truly can not say enough
wonderful things about Pet Behavior solutions!

Sincerely

Angie, Matt and Maggie

Luna
- Well mannered, patient and confident
|
|
As a volunteer puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence, it is so
important that my puppy in training gets off to the right start so she can
fulfill her destiny as a service dog. With the great classes led by Terri,
Luna has learned not only important basics of good behavior, but she has
also learned patience and confidence. She gets so excited when she "chooses"
the right behavior!!
|
|
Since Luna accompanies me everywhere I go, she always
needs to be at her well-mannered best. I am happy to say, not a day goes by
that someone doesn't remark what a well trained dog she is and asks, "can
you train my dog??!" Well, I can't, but call Pet Behavior Solutions. Terri
can!!!

Look forward to a reunion!!

Abby
- Choice Training is perfect and has helped Abby gain confidence and learn composure.

My dog, Abby, is a 2 yr. old Cattle Dog and also a rescue. When I got her 7-months ago, she had some real problem behaviors as well as needing basic obedience training. With the help of Sam and Terri, she is becoming a wonderful, generally well-behaved girl. Given her history, I am certain she would not have responded well at all to the more corrective type of training.

Choice training is perfect for her and has helped her gain confidence and learn composure. We love Pet Behavior Solutions!

... We received another update from Michelle and Abby.

Hi Sam and Terri,

I just thought you guys would like to know that several times in the past few weeks while I have been walking or hiking with Abby, I have had people say, "What a well-behaved dog" or something similar. It feels great! She is doing so well. I have her on the Flexi now and the little bit of freedom it gives her seems to suit her. It gives her an opportunity to explore and "be a dog" but still gives me some control. She is generally good even when other dogs come by, she comes when I call, still sits, heels, etc. We are also working on "leave it" which she has picked up pretty quickly. Anyway, just wanted you to know, THIS STUFF WORKS! Thank you both so much for teaching ME how to be with her and for all the advice. We are both so grateful.

Simon
- More self-sufficient, confident and obedient!

Having already sent our first 2 kids to the University of Arizona for a fine education, we spent much time investigating instate schools trying to find the best fit for the last of our offspring, our young Boston Terrier, Simon. After much deliberation, we ended up with Pet Behavior Solutions and have been thrilled with the results! Like our other kids, upon graduation he has matured in his demeanor, is more self-sufficient, confident and obedient, and we have Sam and Terri to thank for all of this! Simon is now much more self-assured, and has really become more secure with his personality. He is loving, kind and happy, and is a joy to be around.

Thank you Sam and Terri.

Sholo
- Was very unhappy in his kennel, and would eliminate indoors if left with free-run of the house.

In July 1998 my husband gave me the best anniversary present ever, a retired
racing greyhound. I had wanted a dog for forever and he fell in love with a retired
greyhound friends had. I couldn't wait for our adoption date and read everything
I could get my hands on about these majestic creatures.
|
I waited impatiently
for our adoption date and thought I was totally prepared for our new addition. I
couldn't have been more wrong.

We brought our shy boy home and had the usual adjustment issues which were
no big surprise. He chased the cat he wasn't supposed to want to chase.
He walked into the swimming pool and sunk to the bottom. He was overwhelmed by
his new home. All usual and expected.

We were totally enamored of our gorgeous greyhound who was constantly at my side. He didn't seem to want to go into the very large, very expensive crate we had gotten for him but the rescue group said he would get used to it and to just keep putting him in there. Every time we left he house Sholo would chew up anything that was in his crate with him. He would whine and cry and be a very unhappy pup.

Everyone said it was separation anxiety and gave us lots of good advice and suggestions. Nothing worked and the problem was escalating. He was now self-mutilating when crated. We tried leaving him alone in the house which seemed to work for a while but then he started eliminating in the house. It got so we were afraid to leave our own home because we didn't know what to do with the dog.

My husband wanted to give Sholo back and get another one. I was devoted and committed to this dog. He was mine and I loved him. It was breaking my heart to see him so upset but I couldn't let him just leave and go somewhere else not knowing what would happen to him. I heard about Sam Kabbel who was a behaviorist who owned and worked with greyhounds. Since I had tried everything else I decided Sam was my last hope. She came to my home and began observing all of us. She spent 3 hours with us but as soon as she saw Sholo's reaction to his crate she immediately diagnosed him with crate phobia. This seemed odd to me, since racing greyhounds spend all their time in crates, but she was sure. She said to put away the crate.

Then we needed to discuss the indoor elimination issues. After questioning us about when this began Sam figured out that Sholo had become seriously afraid of being left alone in the house after he set off the house alarm one day while we were out. It was after that incident that the indoor elimination started. She helped us work him through that issue using obedience training. Understand that this wonderful dog had no bad habits so the obedience wasn't about correcting bad behavior rather it was about making him a more confident dog. He warmed to the lessons with Sam and in just a few short weeks I began to see a much more confident animal in front of me. He felt as if he had a job to do and a place in our family. My shy, scaredy dog began to have self confidence.

I am now the envy of my neighborhood. Everyone knows and loves my wonderful greyhound. He is known as the gentle giant and causes much embarrassment among neighbors who's pet are not nearly the well behaved gent my sweet boy is. They always hold their dogs up to his standard. He is very social and loves children and animals alike. I will be forever grateful for Sam Kabbel and her staff.

Augur
- No longer trusted humans, was scared and aggressive.

Augur was a 3-year-old rescue dog, with a history of being a stray and being beaten. He no longer trusted humans and was scared and aggressive toward anything but the most positive discipline. Pet Behavior Solutions showed us how to rebuild that trust and make Augur feel loved with positive reinforcement. We couldn't have done it any other way, and it was magic how quickly we saw results. Now he's our best friend and a model house dog.

Miko
- The best part is how much fun we have with Miko now.

We had adopted a four year old cattle dog from a local shelter. Miko was such a sweetheart in our home that we were very surprised when we took her on walks that she became extremely agitated and snapped at other dogs and people. After much searching we brought Miko to Pet Behavior Solutions.

Sam evaluated Miko and helped us understand her behavior and develop a plan to change her fear aggression. We began taking Miko to a basic obedience class where for the first time I learned how to teach and really work with the dog.
|
Our family has had dogs for years and we kept taking them to different types of training, choke chains and clicker training but the only thing the dogs ever learned to do was sit and they didn't do that very well.

For the first time the dogs and I were really having fun and they were learning all of the commands. We went on to take Intermediate class and the Clicks and Tricks class with Terri. We also signed up our other dog for the basic class. Sam and Terri made sure that we could get the commands in any situation and they always have a solution for any problems we run into. The kids have attended dog training too and are able to assist with the training. Miko's anxiety is lessening and I am able to control her behavior. The dogs now have manners at home and on leash. I have learned to understand the dogs so much better that even after the class is over I can keep improving on the commands. The best part is how much fun we have with the dogs now. The dogs love training time and if I try to skip a session they try to get me to do it just like trying to get me to play ball with them.
