• What is Choice Training™ ?

Most training methods focus primarily on teaching you how to control your pet, using physical corrections, force or bribes. Choice Training™  takes a different approach. We teach you how to control everything that affects your pet's environment. Your pet will learn that good behavior is the key to earning privileges. The best part about it is that all our training can be done positively, without the use of physical force or coercion. Further, because we take a balanced approach to training, your pet's behavior will not be controlled by threat, force or bribes. You and your pet will truly enjoy learning!

  • Will Choice Training™  work for my pet?

Yes! These methods have been developed through an extensive understanding of learning theory and animal behavior. Because we are not focusing on physical control of your pet, these methods work for pets of any size or personality. Whether you select private training or enroll in our group classes, we will tailor our training and behavior modification to your specific needs and those of your pet.

  • Do your methods take longer?

Because we do not force the animals into a position, or attempt to simply correct inappropriate behavior, these methods can appear to take longer than traditional training. However, because you are not using force or bribes, your pet actually learns how he or she should behave. The ultimate goal of our training and behavior modification programs is permanent results. When you look at the final outcome, our methods actually produce longer-lasting results more quickly and effectively than other types of training.

Can you board my dog and train him/her for me? Do you offer “doggie boot camp” services?

Pet Behavior Solutions does not offer “board & train” services. Although people may feel such options will save them the time and commitment involved in training, rarely is this the case. Your dog will probably learn to listen to the trainer, but having a dog that is obedient to you requires a relationship between you and your dog that is best developed through training. Oftentimes when the dog leaves the boarding kennel the training ‘fades’ and inappropriate behaviors return. Even though the initial time you spend training your dog may be less with a board & train service, you will likely spend as much or more time maintaining the training once your dog comes home as you would have with the initial training. By working directly with pets and their owners, we also help you learn how to train your dog yourself, in your environment, so you will be able to apply that knowledge should new problems arise. Finally, the cost of board & train services is often much higher than the cost of private, in-home training.

  • How many dogs are enrolled in your group classes?

We have between 4 and 7 dogs in a group class. Because our training is individualized, we want to ensure that each student (human and canine!) gets plenty of individual attention.

  • Do you offer a guarantee?

When dealing with animals, it is unfortunately not possible or ethical to guarantee a particular result or outcome. The outcome of any training or behavior modification program depends on a number of factors including your pet's history, genetic makeup, and environment, and the consistency with which our instructions are followed. Because these factors are outside of our control, we cannot guarantee a specific outcome. We do guarantee, however, the highest degree of professionalism and commitment to working with you and your pet to achieve the best possible results.
